Tell BOEM that we don’t want offshore drilling in the Arctic or any of the federal waters surrounding Alaska. The Trump administration’s draft leasing plan is so extreme that even staunchly pro-oil Alaska Gov. Bill Walker and U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski have said it goes too far and should be scaled back. And offshore leasing in the remote Arctic waters of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas that they favor could do irreparable damage to Native coastal communities and imperiled wildlife like polar bears and ice seals, and set us all down the road toward climate chaos. An oil spill in those treacherous seas would be impossible to clean up – and oil spills will be even more likely since the Trump administration started rolling back offshore drilling safety regulations approved after the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. The reality is that this country doesn’t need offshore oil or the extreme risks that come with it. So stand with Native Alaskans and others to demand that the Arctic Ocean and other waters off Alaska be off limits to drilling by showing up to make your voice heard.
