Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/146158769572703/. Trump's border wall is under construction in southern New Mexico. More than 20 miles of 18-foot high steel bollard wall will soon cut through the Chihuahuan desert west of Santa Teresa. When completed, it will mark Trump's first significant victory in building his promised wall. Border residents are united in opposition to Trump's disastrous plans. The border wall is an affront to our communities; an attack on our wildlife; and a symbol of hate, fear, and divisiveness. We invite people from around the region and nation to join us for an event on Saturday, June 2, 5-8 pm, where we will gather lawfully and peacefully on both sides of the border in the path of construction to demonstrate our unequivocal rejection of Trump's border wall and all that it represents. The event will kick off with a rally near the existing "pedestrian fence" (aka wall) west of the Santa Teresa Port of Entry with speeches, music, dance and poetry. A similar rally may also be held just over the border in Mexico at the same time. As the sun goes down, we will march together to a point along the actual border line where new wall construction is planned. There, we will reclaim our space by using handheld lights to form a powerful visual symbol, in coordination with participants on the Mexican side that, when viewed from above, will send an unmistakable message of solidarity and defiance.
