Action timeline

April 1999 – The Center and allies filed our petition with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list the Shivwitz milk vetch as an endangered species.

April 12, 2000 – In response to a Center petition, the Service proposed listing Shivwitz milk vetch as a federally endangered species.

September 28, 2001 – The Service listed the Shivwitz milk vetch as an endangered species. Critical habitat designation, however, was delayed indefinitely.

2004 – The Center and allies gave notice of intent to sue the Service for failure to designate critical habitat and publish a recovery plan for the Shivwitz milk vetch.

December 27, 2006 – The Service finally designated critical habitat and created a recovery plan.

2007 – The Service prepared a five-year review of the status of the Shivwitz milk vetch and confirmed that it is still endangered.
